First it was crude oil now its Okada…………………..

There’re more motorcycles than they’re humans in Republic of Benin and Togo, and they live in peace and harmony. They even see the bikes as the way out of their problems, where they see solutions, that’s where we see a lot of problems abound in. Does this just tell us that we don’t know how to manage ourselves let alone our resources? Like the way Malaysia got palm oil from us now they are the world’s leading producers, I’m sure so did Togo let alone Benin adopt the idea of using Motorcycles as means of transport.

Like Government like people, the government is so corrupt, the minds of the people are so polluted, they lack the know-how of how to live right, the government doesn’t know how to manage the oil for our benefit, the people don’t know how to manage themselves for their own good.

Its ok when we see the government as some sovereign Lord that we can’t question their acts, but when we begin to see the people in the motorcycle transport business (Okada) around us as lepers, we stigmatize like the white British fans and the black and British footballers like we are all not humans. They’re business men like you and me, sometimes you close your eyes to the ills of the environment and still let the cash roll in, they act in the same way like you.

When we complain about our oil and its mismanagement we blame the government for being too selfish and corrupt with our own resources they manage it like it’s their own, and forget it’s not their birth right. We attach our present setbacks in the country to the government that acts like a war lord only to carry the spoils of the land for his tent alone and forget the soldiers that went with him into the unsettling grounds of war!

A fraction of us found a way out of this strive and decided to buy for themselves motorcycles as means of transport, which increases the length of days to be spent because a way of survival has been found. Many people smuggle all the little change they can find into this little business and they pull their bikes into any major city they can find, people have come from the far north to the city that never sleeps “Lasgidi”, some places have even being named after this business “Okada village” in Benin city.

They do not even know any rule concerning the automobile or what the law of the land says! But wait what did the watch dogs of the land do when they saw the eruption of this business nothing! As far as they could churn some money from their pockets calling it “tax”, they bother less about the acts of the “Okada business”.

Like an untamed stallion the Okada drivers ravage the streets, not having to worry about the people they kill, the blood pressure of other motorist they rise and even the damages they incur on themselves, the only thing on their mind not minding if it leads to their own demise is “getting to their destination at all cost”.

The major benefit of the Okada business is the amount of traffic it cuts, in the city that breathes traffic, its trilling I tell you when you have to only spend 10 minutes than 2 hours on the road; it helps one to arrive at places on time.

The one who started this ban against the Okada business is the one with the better “four eyes”, he probably sees things we can’t see with our ordinary two balls. Some people bless him for the ban and they get bastardized, while some people just curse and say he longer knows what he’s doing and I just analyze the situation and write about it!

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?

We’ve remixed our values!!

Where are the days men used to be courteous without seeming gay and stupid! Do guys still open doors for ladies or we have to see it in movies . The way guys think these days is since “you’re shopping you’re carrying!”

I went grocery shopping with Hottie this morning, she bought this big bunch of plantain and she asked me to please be a gentle man to help her with it, I said sure, I saw no big deal in it, as we strolled we stopped by a Phone store, I needed new earphones, they didn’t  have what I wanted, as we were about to leave with me holding the plantain in some nylon bag, (it looked big when you look at it), the attendant tells Hottie to help me with what I was holding, obviously the attendant was a guy! She smiled and said illiterate! Because she really did thank me and said if it was some guys she knew they would have let her do the whole “load carrying”.

The whole family went shopping last Christmas at the mall, and then a couple had just finished shopping, as they were passing by, the lady complained that the man could not be looking at her carting everything while he was well helping with nothing! Mum also complained too “how can men these days be so ignorant of how to behave”, it seems we guys have thrown the “gentle in the word gentleman”.

Mum hates driving to some parts of town so she takes the public transport, and if I did the driving she did be complaining about my “speed”, if it was my brother she did be complaining about his “drifts”, she took to public transport! As she returned it was late and there was a rush for every vehicle, mum was about to make an entry into some vehicle, some Igbo guy almost beat her to it, and people asked why couldn’t he be a gentleman and let her through, he said “I’m not a Yoruba man that will be “courteous”, when it comes to ladies! When did one having etiquette have to do with tribe?! Pathetic!

Yes it’s the 21 century! It’s the jet age! It’s also a time for us to be well behaved and not to be unruly! During summer, I had the opportunity to volunteer for a camping program for teenagers, and they were asked if they could stand up anywhere they’re found for someone older than they are to have a seat. And they answered obviously like teenagers! They said no way, and most especially when they are so tired! Why should they? For the fact they even got there first it’s impossible!

It’s easy to get carried away, some guys do, they don’t know when she’s carrying all the groceries, it just never occurred to some men these days that ladies need some (not all) doors opened for them, like the way men in my locality think flowers aren’t that important to women! We all think it’s money, but sometimes the little things matter, it’s not about saying you love and care, and making tons and tons of promises, some actions do speak louder than words, some gesture send messages no vocabulary can! Some actions make women feel like a lady! I have an uncle who is married with kids, which is not a reason for him not to treat a lady right, he so warm, and gives ladies their respect, even my grandma (maternal) commented and said he’s a nice and warm gentleman!

And as for the teenagers, they are yet to grow up and realize this world is just too big for it to be about them only!

Drop the ego being a man is enough ego!!

The word gentleman is a title earned and not inherited!!

12"So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you... Matt 7:12

Lasgidi boy!

What’s wrong if Dozie is from Kaduna, Aisha is from Delta, Tunde from Akwa-Ibom and Peter (a white kid) from Ekiti…..
By the time you mention your name, people already know where you are from! Its hard to hide your identity! The name always gives off the tribe one thinks you’re from
I originate from Ogun state, born in Ibadan Oyo state, but raised in Lagos state! To the school authorities I claim Ogun state, because indigenes pay a different among from non-indigenes, but if you ask me where I’m from I’ll tell you Lagos!

Where you’re “from” its different from where you originate from! For all I care you might not even know anything about where you originate from only the name, but let’s stick to where you’ve being all your life, it’s kind of hard because you don’t have a matching name!
This is the 21st century, Lagos is the booming place for business, so many people from every angle of the world come into Lagos for business, Igbos will always tell you “I no come Lagos come count bridges”, they keep the “hustle and bustle” of the business life of Lagos going!

It’s believed, I mean it’s a law that if you have lived in a particular for over a long time, it means that you’re from that place, this explains the Indian-Nigerians, Lebanese-Nigerian, British-Nigerian and many more that live in Nigeria, but don’t claim Nigerian or are not allowed to because of the colour of their skin. So is the same for people who are from other parts of Nigeria living in various parts of Nigeria, they just seem to stick to where they originate from and only having some papers as the identity of where they have lived all their lives.

I was made fun off during my Exchange week Program to Ghana by my colleagues, how can you be a Yoruba boy and not know how to speak Yoruba so well?! I couldn’t take it again! I said I was from Lagos! What! They screamed, analyzed, questioned and termed me the “Lasgidi Boy!”

People find it had when I tell them I’m from Lagos, I tell them I’m sorry I don’t know how to speak Yoruba too well, what gets to them is when I name an urban area in Lagos Suru-lere,  it’s a place immigrants in Lagos reside in which we have done over two generations. It’s believed that the true Lagosians come from the down town of Lagos, in which I agree with.

Language should not be a barrier, it doesn’t mean if you speak Igbo or Hausa or French means you’re not a Lagosian, it only signifies where you originate from, but not where you’re from, not where you’ve lived all your life, a place you can identify with, where most of your   friends, family and people are from. Where people can vouch for you no matter what, and not some so called home town that the only thing you can identify with is probably the language.

Mother tongue…….
People say it’s pathetic that people don’t know their traditional language, I’m sorry to say but tradition is a way of life and a way life is speaking a certain language of where you’re found. For instance the official language in Lagos is English, second is Pidgin-English, in third place Yoruba, and whatever language that’s known around! I took in interest in learning one of the Indian languages, because I have some Indians as neighbours. So it’s not a terrible thing! Learn to move on!

Tradition………….
I was in fix with some people, I said give it time the so-called Eyo festival, Oro and many other traditions they do in Lagos would fade in years to come, they were just shouting and clamoring, “no that’s not possible”, it’s going to remain till eternity”.
You think it’s a lie, okay do this for me if you happen to be in Lagos, New York or London,(I’m sorry but these are places that are filled with different nationalities that I know) ask the next ten people where they originate from, are you done?

You probably find within zero to about three people are really indigenes, it’s the true people of a place that carry on the ethics or culture of the land to the next generation, but in Lagos the indigenes are now a minority in their own land, the place is flooded with different local cultures from different parts of the country and different kinds of tradition from different tradition from different nationalities.
“So we have one tradition work Monday to Friday, parties or events on weekends, that’s how far we go about tradition”.

And for traditional clothes, t-shirt and jeans, and suits, you think its lie go out and count, if we try even try to let’s say wear “traditional clothes”, its between lace, Guinea and Ankara! And it’s “kinda” wrong! Your traditional clothes are what you wear every day, your way of life every day is tradition.

  Politics
It’s still hard for people around here who are not true natives, to find it hard to get votes, if your name doesn’t sound local you should expect less turn out in your campaign, people don’t seem to vouch for people who do not originate from a locality, even if you have lived in that place for a very long time. This is due to the God-fathers running the political system you can’t lead if your lineage doesn’t have a history with the land, dating back from its origin! It will all soon change!

My grandfather found it hard to own a land in the North though he originates from the west! Imagine how hard it would be for him to start a political campaign! And he lived in the north as long as he could remember!

It’s so sad we haven’t gotten pass, if you originate from here or not in Nigeria! So it’s hard for Chike to start a campaign in Ogun, it would only be a dream for Aisha to be a Local Governor Chairman in Enugu. It’s only people who lived in a particular a place that will actually know how to deal with the issues that the populace is dealing, not some money bag who has never stepped a foot in the locality, who doesn’t know what the average man needs but comes up with a manifesto with what he wants it’s so sad!

I think this was one of the reasons Ben Murray Bruce’s campaign did go so well, (CEO of Silver bird ), he spends most of his time in Lagos and goes home once in a while, and decided to run for office not in Lagos but in his home town, Bayelsa, and yes! He lost, he came up with things any Nigerian would want, but not what burdens the heart of the people! Well another major reason I think was politics, he’s a good man! And I’m he  likes to keep his shoes clean wherever he was, even if he finds himself in a muddy ground of politics besides that was his first time and he was going for a political post that demanded a lot, from someone who knows how the game is played!

Sports……………….
And the debate goes on and on international coach or foreign coach for our Football team! I don’t really know! You be the judge! You can’t call someone from outside to come make the best dish known to man in your kitchen, there would be bound to be flaws! But one way or another he would find his way, as the saying goes “always a swimmer will forever be a swimmer”! no matter the water he find himself!

Rainbow Nation!!!
It’s high time we embrace our emerging “multi-culturalism society”, arising among us! It’s time we should encourage the Rainbow nation dream started by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and elaborated by (Fmr.) President Nelson Mandela, let the colour of our skin not determine where we’re from, our names what we can do and our accent how far we can go!

Diversity is the new strategy for winning!!

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone….. Romans 12:18

Proud 2B S.U

I'm black, an S.U and proud!!!!!

I have been really concerned about my Christian life cos of all the comments I have been hearing about till today!!!

I stepped into the gents to ease ma self! And a "guru" in academics in ma class who doesn't really talk much (he's an introvert!!) But we kinda talk sometimes!! Was quick to ask me as I stepped in that “I heard you don't talk in exam!! That you prefer to get zero!!”

I was like you guyz have being talking about me! Cos he was not there when I told some peeps! I wasn't gonna be talking in this exam we started today!! I said "Ama JESUS" person! He threw ma words back at me,  “we aint JESUS people abi!!!”  I said “there are Christians and there are Christians!!! There is the counterfeit and there's the original!!”

He threw ma reply back at me! “So we're the counterfeit abi!” I replied back “I didn't say so! You did!!!”

I started shouting Hallelujah to my Christian brother "Poca", he was like what!!!

I could not explain to him, that I have being tagged among the S.Ues (the JESUS JESUS people)! Then some boy told me that why I’m I shouting Hallelujah!! Why should a person like me be shouting Hallelujah! Well I was too excited to be depressed by another!! Misinterpretation of my personality as a non-christian!!

As I finished my exam! I had a research I had to do on my entomology practical! So asked my classmate "Hottie" for her blackberry, cos my internet subscription had finished!! She said she wanted to use her phone in a test!!

I was like WHAT!!! (Students use their phones during a test!! By googling the answer!!) She said Bless I aint like JESUS JESUS you!!

Wow I was really happy!! I was filled with joy! The joy trashed the bad feeling I had not finding Poca cos I got my stuff in his crib, (his crib is right in front of school so I carshed in there before we went to write our exam!!) Right now am locked out! My system is in his crib and I wanna blog about this whole S.U thing!! Am using Hottie's fone!! ATM

Why people miss interpret ma personality as a non-christain iono!!!

Poca had to crash in ma crib for a while, its quite a long time ago!!  Because he had crib issues!! So he kinda knew me well for a good Christian! He was hanging out with some people some time ago and they started about me!

"Bless can really sleep around" Yeah did you see hiim with that girl in class and they were like, hugging and.......
Poca: are you guyz for real!  Seriously!!

When Poca told me this! I was depressed! The thing about the girl I was hugging in class! She's Hottie's cousin! And she was giving all the guyz attitude when she came with Hottie to class! I asked why she was acting like that?! All of a sudden we hugged! She was trying to say she got no attitude!

Immediately I heard this! This scripture came to head when Paul was writing to the Corinthians about not letting your freedom let people who are weak sin (1Cor 8:9)!! It got to me! It was like a heart break!!!

The next incident was when I went on my Exchange Trip! And Poca had the opportunity to be there when some Pastor Dude! (He's in charge of music in his church!!!)

He said during the whole trip he had no one to relate with! And Poca mentioned me “what about Bless”!! Nope! Bless! Nope! I couldn't relate with him! I was bewildered  but I recall chatting with him about some Christian stuffs during the trip! We didn't talk a lot but I thought we connected! I even showed him my blogs!

He told Poca that it was my frendz!! They aint really good that I need to change my frendz!!
Poca said I told him one time about ma frendz! That I wanted to change them or I have even changed them!

It really gets to me when they misinterprete by peronality! First I didn't care!! Until ma Pastor preached on our righteousness being better than that of the Pharisees (the wordly people)! Unless we are not going to enter the kingdom of GOD (Matt 5:20)

So this new gospel the youths preach these days about not giving a single thing about what people say about them! Its pretty wrong I understand not caring what people say, when they talk trash about you! When they hating on your success!!  I understand all that!! But not when it comes to Christianity!!

You got to defend your Christian swag!! With all you can!! You can't afford to let people say trashy things about your Christianity! You can't do anything about it by going to explain yourself to them but you have to do a rain check on your life!!! And make sure its good!!

As Poca will always say "Orun lo sure ju". Heaven is the only sure the place! Is the only sure thing!!!!
Let's act on what Paul was telling the Philippians to watch their salvation with fear and trembling!!!! (Phil 2:12)
